Looking for an alpaca scarf and/or plaid? Then you've come to the right place. All of our fair trade products are made from alpaca wool, which is known for its unparalleled softness and warmth. Compared to traditional sheep's wool, alpaca wool is lighter weight, hypoallergenic and lanolin-free, which also makes it perfect for people with sensitive skin. But precisely because it is also a rather fragile fabric, it is important that you maintain it properly. We have some tips on how to enjoy your alpaca scarf for as long as possible.
Wash your alpaca scarf and plaid with cold water
Tip number one to use your favorite alpaca scarf or plaid product well maintained, is to wash it with cold water. Ideally, you should wash it as little as possible, because its softness is best preserved when it comes into contact with cold water as little as possible. But do you still want to keep your alpaca wool plaid and/or scarf smelling fresh and remove stains? Then do this with cold water. This has less tarnish on the wool, preserving the softness that will make you fall in love all over again.
Avoid wringing out alpaca wool to maintain its shape
Alpaca wool is a fragile fabric and therefore it is best not to wring out your scarf and/or plaid after washing. If you do, you will automatically wring out wrinkles in it and because of its fragility it may remain visible. It is important to treat it as gently as possible.
Allow scarves and plaids to dry flat to prevent distortion
In addition to the above tip, it's best to just let your alpaca wool scarf and plaid dry flat. Preferably, throw it over something, rather than hanging it over a drying rack, because that way there may be a wrinkle anyway.
Store in a cool, dry area to prevent moths
This doesn't mean you can't just hang it in your closet in the bedroom, but it's best when it's not full in the hot sun. Your alpaca wool scarf is best kept on a hanger in a closed closet, to avoid seeing the work of moths next winter when you want to put your favorite alpaca wool scarf back on.
